Cubana, the national flag carrier of Cuba was created in 1929. Currently the airline is undergoing a modernization of its fleet ; Just Planes was lucky to visit the airline prior to this change and catch the Ilyushin 62 in action! The IL-62 first flew in 1963 and is currently in service with only a couple of airlines. This is a wonderful occasion to discover this aircraft with a roundtrip flight to Bogota, Colombia, in the cockpit. The program includes a walkaround, a cockpit presentations, cabin views and service and a lot more! Also includes are domestic flights on the Antonov 24 and Yakovlev 42 as well as a flight on the Yak 42 to Costa Rica and Guatemala. The DVD also includes a visit of Cubana's maintenance facility, Havana runway action and more...

This title from Just Planes Videos follows this company's well establised formula. What you get is good camerawork along with a general presentation of the airline, in this case Cubana. All stages of a flight are documented, and there is plenty of cockpit radio and intercom traffic along with some footage shot in the passenger cabin. What is different here, not to say more exotic, is the selection of aircraft that are exclusively of Russian origin ; the backdrops at various South American airports that include the odd propliner (DC-6 etc) and the fact that in many cases the flight crew are speaking English despite this not being their mother tongue. Nine sectors are covered in their own chapters, the first one Havana-Bogota in an Ilyushin 62. There are 2 of them in a Yak42D filmed from the passenger cabin.

OK guys, you hit it out of the park with this DVD.... Th IL-62 flight to and from Bogota is just stunning!!!!! What a great chance to see how this beautiful beast is operated.... It's so great to see an "old-style" flight deck, with the navigator & flight engineer panels. Also the An-24 & Yak-42 presentations are great. The scenery is also beautiful. This is my 5th DVD, but it's definitely the best one I have. Thanks for a great show Carlos Augusto Narvaez, COLOMBIA
This DVD is awesome! I really enjoyed the three Soviet aircraft featured on this DVD! I liked the walkarounds of the Ilyushin 62M and the Antonov 24RV because it is nice to learn of what you need to be looking for when your doing this check. I really did like the cockpit presentations of all aircraft which did enlighten me on lots of stuff that I didn't know about their cockpits! I also enjoyed the Cubana Maintenance presentation in English and Spanish, also liked the roundtrip in the cabin of the Yakovlev 42D which was cool and last but not least the cuban destinations and scenery. Thanks to all pilots for their great presentations! This DVD is a must have! Spencer Mitchell, USA

An airline pilot who is a friend of mine recommended this video to me simply because he said you will see instruments and systems in the Russian airliners that you would never have seen before in the North American and other European manufacturers cockpits. I was truly impressed with the aircraft shown in this video. I loved the nose tiller that was mounted on top of the Captain's yoke of the IL-62 and loved the navigator and flight engineer panels on the aircraft. The weather radars in both the IL-62 and AN-24 are neat to view as well. I thought that the YAK-42 cockpit was much easier to understand than the other two aircraft mentioned. I really enjoyed the flight into and out of Guatemala City which looks like a challenge for pilots. The walkaround of the IL-62 was also nice. The pilots/crews had a very hard time with the English but as one reviewer said, it isn't their mother tongue. Nonetheless, they tried very hard to tell us everything about their airplanes and in great detail as well so this effort was much appreciated. I am glad that I have this volume to accompany my Cubana A320/330 and ATR DVD. It is nice to see both the new and old technologies together despite the fact that the older aircraft may be retired soon. A great DVD and a true joy for those who like Russian/classic jets and seeing instruments that they wouldn't see everyday.  Jeff Schapira, CANADA

Always really interesting to see how russian aircraft work. Nice dvd!! Nice Country!!!Alejandro Fraire Alvarado, MEXICO
Congratulations again, the Cubana´s IL-62 DVD. It is fantastic. This is the first time Iwas able to see the cockpit of Russian airliner. Ricardo Ruiz Valley, MEXICO
I just watched your Cubana IL-62/AN24/YAK42 DVD, and wanted to say how much I enjoyed it. I must say the picture quality is superb, considering the tight confines of those cockpits, plus the lighting difficulties with the bright light from the cockpit windows and the dark instruments. In addition, I liked the "Flight in Cabin" feature at the end. The stunning shots of that volcano near GUA were great!   Tim Chaloner, USA
Very good job! Miguelo Torrens, SPAIN
I've recently bought and seen your DVD about IL 62 Cubana. I think you've accomplished a perfect work aboard the aircraft. I consider wonderful the cockpit description and the overhead panel from Captain. Thank you for this tribute. Amos Migliavacca, ITALY
Just got through viewing the CUBANA DVD containing the IL-62, AN-24RV... I enjoy the tours of the cockpit instrumentation given by many of the flight crew. Keep up the good work. Tony Owen, USA
The Cubana program is a very good dvd! Marcello Inglez de Souza, BRAZIL
This fascinating program shows the radical difference between Russian and Western design practice. The star of the show is the IL-62M. An enjoyable three hours viewing. Robert Apps, UNITED KINGDOM
Very nice. Markku Siljander, FINLAND
I bought 4 DVD's, Avicsa, Cubana, Gol and Aeropostal. You have excellent dvd's! I send you a congratulations. Thank you for bringing us videos of the fantastic world of aviation! Ever Rosas, MEXICO
I recently finished watching the Cubana AN-24/IL-62/YAK-42 program. I have been fascinated with the Soviet aircraft operations at Cubana for a very long time. This program offers a fantastic look inside Cubana's classic Soviet fleet. The pilot commentaries and cockpit walk-throughs were my favorite. This was my first JustFlight program and I loved it. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested. David B, USA
