Awesome DVD, worth the $30. Just watched it last night, and got to see my dad on it when the aircraft went to Puerto Rico. He was one of the Eastern Air Lines retirees (30 yrs, 1959-1989). So, N836D was one year in service when my dad started working for Eastern. Therefore, this DVD means a lot to me. Thank you so much for producing this DVD. Jose R Santiago,, USA
A huge thank you to Just Planes and the Historical Flight Foundation for an amazing trip in a DC-7B time machine back to the 1950s golden age of air travel! It might interest readers of these comments to know that this DC-7B, N836D, was delivered to Eastern Air Lines in January of 1958 and was one of 50 DC--7Bs operated by Eastern from 1955 through 1966, This program begins with a welcome from the President of the foundation and continues with a start of all 4 engines as viewed from the ramp. The takeoff from Opa Locka is first shown from 2 cockpit camera angles and then from a passenger seat at the leading edge of the left wing with orange flames flashing from the exhaust stacks. As the flight progresses towards San Juan, we see beautiful views of the Bahamas and Turks & Caicos in a vivid turquoise sea on a perfect day for photography with blue sky and scattered cumulus clouds. The stop in San Juan includes a reunion of retired Eastern employees with more views of this magnificent airplane parked on the ramp. We continue on to St Maarten with a nearly half hour segment of takeoffs and landings of many aircraft types and scenery of this colorful caribbean island with its world famous beach right at the end of the runway. One of the takeoffs and landings here is of our DC-7B! Fantastic! Next is the exciting takeoff from St Maarten with us on board ahead of the right wing with the dramatic sights and sounds of those Wright 3350 engines pounding at takeoff trust. Then a view of the same takeoff filmed from the cockpit forward window. Following are more beautiful views of the sea and many islands along our route to Aguadilla, PR. After a refueling stop there we continue on with a dramatic takeoff filmed from the cockpit and cabin. As we continue on our flight back to Opa Locka the sun begins to set and is reflected in the engines and wings as seen through the forward cabin windows. As night falls and we approach the airport, the views our over the wings show the very hot blue flames shooting from the exhaust stacks. A sight not to be forgotten! After a nice landing the DC-7B taxies to the ramp and we catch one more look at this wonderfully restored airplane! This program includes a cockpit tour by the flight engineer and a fun presentation by our 2 stewardesses who sing their class song from their 1968 Eastern Air Lines training graduation. This program is a must have for anyone interested in the glory days of air travel and the awesome Douglas DC-7! This is a dream come through! Greg Rowland, USA
This is another great HD program. I was a little skeptical about this DVD because I am more of a fan of modern aircraft, but this program didn't disappoint at all. The inflight scenery was amazing (the HD quality is really something), the wing views were really nice, the crew was great, and the destinations were key to the enjoyment of the DVD. The 30 minutes of footage from St. Maarten was amazing, especially in HD. This gives us a taste of what future airport programs might look like in HD. I definitely like what I see! This DVD is a must have for all aviation fans, whether you like the old birds or the modern ones.

In 1957 we moved near Washington DC. My father often flew on business so we often went to Washington National Airport. I was 7 years old then. There was the outdoor observation deck and I always loved going out there to watch the planes. We were near Eastern's gates, so I remember the DC-7B very well, probably the ultimate in passenger luxury. Those were the days when only the privileged few could fly, and I was often more than envious watching those DC-7's departing, wishing I could be on it. Everyone dressed up to fly, and it was a treat, the very few times I got to fly. I occasionally got to go aboard an airplane and remember the new airplane smell, the so comfortable seats, just sitting in one, looking out over the wing. Sadly, I never had the opportunity to fly in one of them, although I later flew in an Eastern Electra and Super G Constellation. Those days are forever gone...UNTIL JUST PLANES PUTS OUT THIS WONDERFUL DVD ON THE DC-7B. I don't even know where to start in my review! I loved the takeoffs from different angles, in the cockpit and cabin. And those flames from the engines brought back memories of flying on an Eastern Super G Constellation. As we took off on this DVD, I hoped everybody on the ground was watching, because this is something you won't see every day.
When you were having your contest on Facebook to guess HD DVD #9, I hadn't a clue to what kind of airplane it would be, and was completely blown away when I saw it would be this Eastern Airlines DC-7B. I was completely blown away and immediately ordered it. It took 5 days to get here to Bangkok, and my only complaint was, IT WAS TOO SHORT! Time went faster on this DVD than any other one. You let us experience an era of flying that is long gone, and it brings back many memories. I don't think I will have stories like this when I fly an on Airbus 380 tomorrow.
I know a lot of work went into this DVD; it was difficult to film and you took a big risk, but I believe a risk that will more than repay itself. I will be watching this DVD many times, and I will probably order another one for my sisters as a Christmas present. Thank you again Just Planes for what I believe will be your #1 DVD. I'm already looking forward to HD DVD #10. Michael Karpf, THAILAND
Absolutely fabulous. The last time I few in one of these was from London via Rome, Athens and onto Cyprus were I was a serving airman in the RAF at Akrotiri.
The whole flight brought back all the locked away experiences, especially the engine fire on take off at Rome, which after and engine change, maybe three hours we were airborne again after a wonderful blow out on the airline which everyone enjoyed. Gather some of the passengers didn’t fly further with us, but that was there mistake, enjoyed every minute of this and that flight.

A nice change of pace from the usual offerings from Just Planes. I really enjoyed the great scenery and destinations that were featured. You can tell that the people involved with this project really love aviation and this production illustrates it beautifully. This video shows what real flying was like back in the day and how much aviation has evolved. A must have for the true aviation fan! George Alves, USA
I just finished watching the GREAT DVD with the DC-7 of Eastern Air Lines. What a gorgeous piece of flying history this plane is, and even though it is from before my time, It has peaked my interest into these old birds. The Info from the president of the foundation was great, and I love the music with parts of the program, I would like to thank Capt Moss and his crew for the great info about the plane. The cockpit tour was very interesting as well as the differant views. The wing shots were amazing, Id love to sit right by the engines. I Love the sound of the Engines! The views of the plane on the ground are real nice as well, That is one Sexy Plane. The Singing F/As were fun to listen to as well. The night views were pretty cool as well with the flames coming out of the exaust. Again, Thank you to the Crews of this plane as well as Just Planes for a Marvelous Educational and Fun Video. Dont want to forget the shot from St Martin, Always amazing. John Linder, USA
